How FlightWear Landed

Hi, I’m Zoe - founder and CEO of Flight Wear.

Flight Wear was born out of a love of travel and a love of birds!

It was an idea that originated in 2015, when searching for clothing to wear on the plane on an overseas trip. It’s hard to find something comfortable and stylish – and I’ve visited many stores and never been able to find exactly what I’m looking for. This had me thinking “why has no one thought of that?”. I jotted “travel wear” down in my phone notes back then and it was something I kept coming back to. The clear idea of Flight Wear was born in April 2022.

Meerkats to Mannequins

From a University Degree in Animal Science - I had forged a long-time career as a Zookeeper, but found the need to be thinking of an interest outside the zoo world. Over the next week of car trips, whilst sitting in traffic on the freeway, the foundations of Flight Wear were born.

I always had a fascination with animals as a child, living in the outer Eastern leafy suburbs of Melbourne and growing into an adult have gained a deeper understanding of the impact’s humans have on the wild environment, the need for ethical and sustainable thinking as well as conservation and regeneration. Having a love of birds – surrounded by birds where I live and where I had been working, I want to ensure that a portion of profits will contribute to in-situ bird conservation and wildlife care. I also have a love of travel, having explored a number of places both in Australia and Overseas and a deep love of planes and aviation. Birds and planes and travel clothing…Flight Wear!

Welcome Aboard

Flight Wear was a business name available for me to register as well, as well as the domain name here in Australia. From there the ideas kept coming, the more I added, the more I thought of! I was then thrilled to come across a company whom I could work alongside to manufacture right here in Melbourne. To be a small Australian owned business, with garments designed and made in Australia was the icing on the cake! (I also love to bake!) And as for the logo – the aircraft I’ve most travelled on is the Boeing 737-800 and my favourite Australian bird species is the Noisy Pitta!

Runway Ready

As 2023 came around, the ideas of Flight Wear started taking over my brain and in August 2023 I said goodbye to the Zoo world, after 13 and a half years – finishing up as a senior bird keeper. That was not an easy decision, but I had put a lot in place and knew that Flight Wear was my future. Goodbye to Zookeeper Zoe, and Hello to CEO Zo!

In February 2025 our first two collections arrived, including a cardigan, tee and tracksuit pant. In August 2025 the linen pant also joined each collection.
